New Facebook Safety & Security Tools Settings

Facebook has just introduced additional safety features and a newly redesigned Family Safety Center. We recommend that you update your Facebook settings to take advantage of the increased security options:

Step 1: Set Up Secure Browsing (HTTPS):

Experience Facebook over a secure connection using HTTPS, especially if you use public wifi or are uncertain about the security of your network. To enable HTTPS, log into your Facebook account and manage your account settings. Go to Account Security and check “Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible", then click ‘Save’.

If you start using a non-HTTPS application while in HTTPS mode, Facebook will automatically switch you back to HTTPS mode when you’re finished.

Step 2: Set Up Login Alerts

This new feature asks you to enter a code anytime you log in from a new device. You will also receive an email when a log in to your account is detected from a new device, which will help you identity any unauthorized log-ins. The feature is turned “OFF” by default, so to enable it log into your Facebook account and manage your account settings. Go to Account Security and check the option for ‘Send me an email’ when a new computer or mobile device logs into this account.

Step 3: Visit the New Family Safety Center

We like the new content in Facebook’s Family Safety Center for Parents, Teachers and Teens. We recommend that you ‘Like’ the Facebook Safety page to receive updates on Facebook safety tools and initiatives directly to your Facebook News Feed.
